Principal Advisor-Strategic Initiatives
Mark Clare, MA, MS, LSC, LSSMBB, serves as principal advisor for strategic initiatives at Purdue Healthcare Advisors (PHA). In this role, he leads PHA’s performance improvement offerings including Lean Six Sigma for Healthcare training and certification, Lean leadership and strategy, rapid improvement events and solution delivery in re-admissions, HAC, patient flow and other high-impact areas. He also is responsible for PHA strategic planning and new service development.
Mark has 11 years of experience working in healthcare delivery that includes VP roles in operational excellence and informatics at Parkview Health and Lean Transformation at Ball Memorial Hospital. He also served as an independent consultant and, in that capacity, worked with healthcare vendors and hospitals to pilot services for patient-flow management and operational decision making using cloud computing platforms and advanced analytics.
Complementing his role in PHA, Mark is adjunct faculty at Northwestern University teaching in the School of Professional Studies’ leadership program, and previously taught in the School of Education’s Master’s Program in Learning and Organizational Change. He works with graduate students in medical informatics, predictive analytics and healthcare policy. At Northwestern, he introduced the school’s first course on cognitive design and behavioral economics, and won a Harvard Business / McKinsey Consulting M-prize for his innovative use of social micro-learning and mobile apps within his courses.
Mark is author of the Cognitive Design blog as well as peer-reviewed publications including the book Knowledge Assets (Harcourt Press) and a series of articles in KM Review entitled “Solving the Knowledge-Value Equation.” He holds two knowledge management-related patents with several new applications under development. Mark was an engineering fellow at the University of Minnesota and earned dual masters’ degrees in physics and philosophy, both from Ball State University. He holds Lean Silver and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certifications.
