Post-Doctoral Researcher in Cloud Computing/Cyberinfrastructure

Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering (RCHE) is announcing a search for a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the areas of cyberinfrastructure/cloud computing. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be responsible for research in RCHE's advanced computational infrastructure as well as on-premise and cloud computing systems. The successful applicant will help define RCHE's requirements based on the research efforts to ensure the efficient and productive functionality of the computing systems. The Post-Doctoral Researcher also will be responsible for developing and/or implementing core components of the computing resources, including cluster management, audit and compliance software; updating; and testing the computing infrastructure. Also, the Research Scientist will be expected to understand how current and future technology fits into RCHE's needs and help to develop strategies for future directions of development and capabilities. In addition, the successful candidate will help to design, develop, and support software technology to support HIPAA requirements and other privacy and compliance issues that arise. Job responsibilities

  • Evaluate data architecture customer needs and design and develop system requirements for big data.
  • Develop software implementation of data architecture
  • HIPAA Audit: Improve and streamline process for data access by customers and provide regulatory support for HIPAA internal audit.
  • Dissemination- Write manuscripts for peer reviewed publications. Present research results at major conferences and meetings and participate in discussions with healthcare providers.
  • Mentoring - Mentor and supervise students participating on healthcare engineering translational research projects. Advise doctoral students in completion of their dissertation research.
  • Generate grant funding-Participate in formulating ideas and concepts for grant applications of sufficient merit to receive grant awards from competitive national funding agencies.


  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in computational systems development and big-data architecture using open-source technologies such as Hadoop, JuptyterHub, and container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Experience in a cloud computing environment such as Amazon Web Service is a plus. Experience using health data such as electronic health records and insurance claims.
  • Advanced skills in operating system level language such as Unix/Linux shell scripting language
  • Deep programming languages experience such as Java, Python, or C
