LDI Course

Lean Daily Improvement Facilitator Training & Certification

Course Description

Discover the tools for continuous process improvement at the point of service with Lean Daily Improvement (LDI) Training & Certification offered online through PHA Direct from Purdue Healthcare Advisors at Purdue University. PHA trains healthcare professionals to facilitate improvement events, manage value streams, and become lean leaders, but we start with LDI because it gives learners the basic knowledge, skills and confidence to effect change using proven lean methodologies. Workers from the front line to the back office ― and the administrators and clinicians in between ― learn how to use tools such as the team huddle, counter measures, and visual management to keep improvements on track as work is being done.

With this online training course, learners receive remote coaching from lean experts as well as access to a community of practice and real-world case studies that will help you make small, daily, coordinated changes to work processes for improved healthcare access, quality, and cost. Download Flyer

Frequently asked questions

What will I learn? LDI equips you with robust lean techniques to make systematic changes while work is being done. It's an evidenced-based method that provides the least amount of disruption to the workday. You'll select a key performance metric; collect and display data visually; run team huddles to get to root causes, assign corrective actions, and keep the process moving. You’ll become familiar with the six to nine Sources of Influence; the Overload Principle; engaging teams; and change management.

What kind of learning support will I receive? The program offers access to remote coaching as well as three years of access to Connect, an online community that houses tools and real-world, process-improvement case studies that highlight the standard work, targeted metrics, and outcomes of healthcare organizations like yours.

What is my time commitment? Training for a digital badge requires the completion of 10 learning modules or about 12 hours of online work per track in which you'll make submissions, complete quizzes, and participate in a discussion thread. You’ll also submit hands-on exercises involving real-world tasks that are reviewed by your coach. Certification requires an additional 20 additional hours of applied work.

What if I don't want to get certified as a LDI Facilitator at this time? You may choose to approach the program in phases by completing the online training first to earn a digital badge, which is a recognized credential from Purdue University. You have the option to upgrade later to complete the application work and other requirements for full certification.

What if I want to experience LDI in a different training format? In addition to this online course, which welcomes both individuals and groups, organizations have the option to contract with PHA for customized training that includes two-days of classroom learning at your site or remote training delivered via a series of live webinars. All formats include coaching and access to our community of practice/case studies.
