MIPS Audit Evidence Checklist

Preparing for a MIPS audit

You may receive a data validation audit as part of your participation in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), and this has created an additional information management requirement for the program. Preparing yourself for this possibility doesn't have to overwhelm you though. Purdue Healthcare Advisors' Quality Services Team has put together a checklist to reference the types of information you may wish to keep in support of your 2021 MIPS participation. Our checklist includes a structure for you to compile supporting documentation, including the following sections:

  • Organizational Information
  • HARP Account and Contacts
  • Hardship Application, if applicable
  • Lists of EPs and clinics
  • Improvement Activities
  • Promoting Interoperability
  • Security Risk Assessment
  • Quality

You'll need to keep this documentation for at least 6 years. If an audit finds that you failed to meet the minimum reporting requirements for any of the required measures, your practice may have its PI score reduced to zero points and could face additional consequences.
